Very Rev. Thomas Bortz
Pastor

Rev. Thomas Paul Michael Joseph Bortz, a Reading native, attended Central Catholic High School and earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Millersville University. Before the priesthood, he worked as an environmental technician for the Commonwealth of PA and was the owner-operator of  T. Paul Screen Printing.  Fr. Tom attended Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary and earned M.Div. and S.T.B. degrees from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary.   

Bishop Cullen ordained him on June 5, 2004 and his first assignment was at St. Ignatius.  Fr. Bortz also served as a Parochial Vicar at our Cathedral and at St. Anne’s, Bethlehem.  He was honored to be the first Chaplain at the new Berks Catholic High School, and has been blessed to be the Pastor at St. Ignatius since 2013.

Fr. Tom has served on various Diocesan Committees including the Council of Priests, the Synod, the Strategic Planning Committee, the Priestly Life and Spirituality Committee, St. Andrew’s Commission on Vocations, the Board of Education, as District CYO Spiritual Director, the Priest Personnel Board, and currently as the Dean of Berks County.
