Deacon Ed Sanders
Permanent Deacon
Deacon Ed Sanders was ordained a permanent deacon by Bishop John O. Barres in 2015 and assigned to his home parish of St. Ignatius Loyola in Sinking Spring.
Deacon Ed is originally from York, PA. He is the son of Mrs. Dolores Sanders and the late Roy Sanders. He is the eldest of their seven children – six boys and a girl.
He graduated from York Catholic High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Alvernia University. Prior to moving to Reading, he held a Master’s License in Plumbing.
He married his wife, Debbie, in 1974. They have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. A new job brought Deacon Ed and his family to the Shillington area in 1982. In 1984 they joined St. Ignatius Loyola Parish and have been members, ever since.
Both Deacon Ed and his wife have been active in teaching CCD, off and on for over 40 years both at St. Joseph in York and at St. Ignatius. Currently, they are teaching one of the confirmation PREP classes.
Deacon Ed is the chaplain for Special Ministers of the Eucharist, the Lectors, and The Knights of Columbus council #2786.
Outside of his diaconate work, Deacon Ed currently is a project manager/estimator for Bonfitto, Inc., a mechanical contractor that specializes in high-pressure steam applications.
When Deacon Ed is not working, he enjoys reading – especially history books, woodworking, traveling, drinking fine wines, and preparing five course meals for family and friends.
Deacon Ed is humbled by the good works of the parishioners of St. Ignatius. His delight is in serving God alongside those at St. Ignatius. He joyfully shares his heart, time and talents with all at St. Ignatius as we all continue to build the church of God.
