Deacon John Murphy
Pastoral Associate

Deacon Murphy is a native of Scranton, PA and a founding member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish.
He has been a member of the Parish Staff as a Pastoral associate since 1990.

Married and the father of four and the grandfather of seven, he had led an extensive and diverse
background: retired military officer, senior corporate officer and an award winning writer, journalist
and TV writer and producer.

After completing five years of formation at Mary Immaculate seminary in Northampton, PA he was
ordained a Deacon by the Most Rev. Thomas J. Welsh, Bishop of Allentown on May 19, 1990.

Presently a member of the Diocesan Pastoral Council, he continues to be involved in the
pastoral, litutgical and evangelization activities in the parish and the diocese.
