THE YEAR OF ST. PAUL

Pope Benedict XVI has called the Church to observe a year dedicated to St. Paul, beginning June 28th, marking approximately the 2,000th anniversary of
the saint’s birth.  The hope is that we would plan pastoral, cultural, and social initiatives inspired by St. Paul’s spirituality.  The year would conclude with
the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul on July 29, 2009.  Our parish plans to arrange special presentations regarding the works of St. Paul for our Lenten
2009 study program.  Watch for more details at a later date.

“A TIME TO LOVE”

We are ready to begin another successful year of Berks Heim Bingo
starting Tuesday, October 14, 2008.  This can only be achieved
through works of Stewardship from our Parish and Faith
Community.  Through “Time” we can Serve the Lord by
serving and
embracing
the elderly.  Through volunteering 2 hours of our
precious time for only 1 month of the six month period
we can give
the most precious gift . . .
Love.  To give His people . . . our people,
who are in a time in their
lives when it is most desperately needed.
Through “Talent” we are asking for bakers to prepare Angel Food
Cakes, Shortbread or Sugar Cookies as our special treat/give for the
residents.  Young or old, we all love TREATS!!  Through “Treasure”
we are asking for donations of all
types as prizes to give.
Whether monetary or donations
of tissues, lotions,
perfumes/colognes, tissues, button down or zip up sweaters, tissues,
large print search and find or crossword puzzles, tissues, powder,
slippers, tissues, small stuffed animals, costume jewelry and did I
mention TISSUES!! Please
consider this wonderful opportunity to
Serve!  I have seen it make a difference in so many lives, especially in
the Volunteers!  If you are looking for community service hours, a
family volunteer activity or just simply want to help, please call Liz
Lyons-Bortz at 610-451-4550 to receive more details.
God bless!

ST. IGNATIUS LOYOLA SCHOOL NEWS

The 2008-2009 school year got off to a great start.  Classes began on August
25th with an enrollment of 519.  We are very excited about the programs that
have been planned for this school year.

We bid farewell to two wonderful teachers this year, Mrs. Janelle Cole and Mrs.
Kathy Coughlin.  We would like to thank these individuals for their service to St.
Ignatius Loyola School.

We also need to introduce two new staff members for this school year.  Mr.
Gerald Freiler will be teaching Physical Education and Health, and Mrs.
Christine Frankowiak, who is employed by the BCIU, will be working at St.
Ignatius as a Reading Specialist.

Fire Safety programs will be presented to our students in preschool through
sixth grade during the month of October.

Our fall Book Fair for our students will be held during the week of Sept. 22.  The
fair will be open from 8AM to 3PM Monday through Thursday and from 8AM to
1PM on Friday.  Everyone is welcome.

St. Ignatius Loyola School will be participating in the 23rd Annual Walk-A-Thon
for Catholic Education on Sunday, October 19, 2008.  We are looking for
Corporate Sponsors who believe that the value of a Catholic education lasts a
lifetime.  For more information, please call Nancy Schwartz, St. Ignatius Director
