| Faith AND Works? |
| CAN I BE SAVED WITHOUT DOING ANYTHING? |
| Catholics and Protestants do not agree on this important matter. We do agree that we cannot be saved without GOD doing something. We all agree that Jesus, Who is God the Son, became human, so that He could save us from our sin. He became like us so that we could become like Him, as much as a human creature can become like the Divine Creator. God also works within us to change our hearts. Protestants believe that all we need to do is give up our sins and believe. Nothing else is required of us. But Catholics are a little more precise. We teach that anyone who has living faith has enough to be saved, IF he or she were to die immediately. But living faith is also a loving faith and a hopeful faith. Therefore, a person with living faith eventually does loving deeds, if he or she does NOT die immediately. This is true of the vast majority of Christians. One day everyone of us will be judged "according to our works." The Bible says this over and over and over again! So be prepared. |
